2001 MCI Airport Exercise
On Sept. 28, 2001, an exercise was conducted in Franklin County to test an area response to a plane crash and chemical release in the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe trainyard near the airport. There were about 140 volunteers that acted as victims. Lourdes MC, Kadlec MC and KGH were involved in the exercise, as well as, EMS, Fire and Law Enforcement from around the Tri Cities area. FEMA evaluated the response portion of the exercise and the FAA evaluated the airport related side of the exercise.

FCEM wishes to thank all of the volunteers and the following agencies for their help and participation in the exericise: Pasco School District, Franklin County Public Works, EMS Council, the Emergency Room staff from the 3 Tri - Cities Hospitals, all of the Tri Cities emergency response agencies (fire, EMS, law enforcement, HAZMAT Team), the Tri City Volunteer Center, Tri-tech, the LDS Church Volunteers, Columbia Basin College volunteers, Benton County Emergency Management, Washington State Departments of Health-toxicology, Ecology and Emergency Management, Energy Northwest, and the Department of Energy, as well as, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
